Carlos Maggi, MD, is a board-certified pediatrician with additional board certifications in critical care and pulmonology. Dr. Maggi currently is practicing as the Director of the Pediatric Hospitalist Division at MCH and President and CEO of Pediatric Hospitalists of America.

 

Dr. Maggi received his medical degree from Cayetano Heredia Medical School in Peru, and completed his residency as chief resident at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago, where he received the prestigious St. Luke Award as outstanding teaching resident. He completed his subspecialty training in pediatric critical care and anesthesiology at Johns Hopkins University and has academic appointments as an associate clinical professor of pediatrics at the University of California, Irvine College of Medicine and the faculty at the department of pediatrics, UCLA.

 

His clinical interests include pediatric hospital medicine, procedural sedation, asthma, pulmonary medicine, critical care and  teaching. His work also has appeared in many different publications, textbooks and abstracts. In addition to his practice experience, which includes starting the pediatric hospitalist and pediatric sedation services at Miller Children’s, Dr. Maggi has given over 500 lectures as part of his pediatric outreach education program, which he started in 1984 as a free service to the community. He is frequently invited as a speaker at International conferences and symposiums.

Dr. Maggi is a member of several organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Thoracic Society, Society for Critical Care Medicine and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Critical Care Medicine and the American College of Chest Physicians.

 

Dr. Maggi serves as the Director of the Hospitalist Division since 2003, after serving 15 years as the medical director of the PICU and associate director of the Pulmonary Center at Miller Children’s. He also has served as the president of the Board of Directors at Miller Children’s Specialty Group, as the director of the Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship Program at Miller Children’s and as a member of the Board of Trustees at Miller Children’s. He has twice been awarded physician of the year at Miller Children’s and also was recognized as one of the best doctors in America for over 10 years in a row.
