Dr. Craig J. Spurdle is the chief of Orthopedic Surgery at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, as well as an assistant professor at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine, Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine and NOVA Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is a former member of the U.S. World Cup Ski Team and travels with the U.S. World Cup Ski and Snowboard Teams as an on-snow physician.
Dr. Spurdle earned his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City. He then completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine/Jackson Memorial Hospital. Dr. Spurdle then pursued a fellowship in pediatric orthopedic surgery and sports medicine reconstruction at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite Hospital in Georgia. His clinical interests include arthroscopic pediatric and adolescent sports medicine reconstruction, skeletal trauma, along with other congenital and acquired anomalies of the skeletal system.
Dr. Spurdle is board certified in orthopedic surgery. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and a member of the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and he has presented at medical conferences. Since joining Nicklaus Children's Health System in 2009, Dr. Spurdle has been an active member of the medical staff and participated on numerous health system committees. He currently serves on the board of directors for both Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists and the Nicklaus Children's Hospital Ambulatory Surgery Center (NCHASC).
Dr. Spurdle is employed by Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists, the physician-led multispecialty group practice of Nicklaus Children’s Health System (NCHS).
As one of the largest and most comprehensive pediatric orthopedic practices in Florida, The Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Orthopedic, Sports Health and Spine Institute skillfully provides state-of-the-art and compassionate care for athletes of all levels. With the assistance of a dedicated support staff, our pediatric orthopedic surgeons perform over 1,500 surgical procedures each year. The institute also conducts an additional 34,000 outpatient visits annually, including the management of more than 6,000 fracture cases and is world-renowned for its spinal surgery program.
