What are some of the specific conditions you treat?
I am in a general internal medicine practice with a focus on geriatrics. Primary areas of interest are dementias, patients with multiple complex medical conditions and polypharmacy issues. I attend many of the local area subacute and long term care facilities, which allows me to follow my patients through different transitions of care.
What would you like patients to know about your approach to care?
My approach to care is to develop relationships with patients and their families that will allow us to work together as a team to provide the best care possible. I believe that if patients understand their diagnoses and treatment options, they are more likely to participate in their healthcare and, with my guidance, make choices that will most greatly improve their quality of life.
What inspired you to become a doctor?
My inspiration to become a physician is my father. Dr. Robert Brabston was an internest in Pompton Lakes for over 30 years. Although I saw him work very long hours, I also heard the stories about the patients whom he helped and the lives he changed through his caring, intelligent and individualized approach. The greatest experience of my career was the four years we worked together in practice. To observe him interacting with his patients and to hear from patients about the role he played during life changing moments in their lives only confirmed that I possessed the skills required to provide compassionate healthcare.
